What is the Pink Bison Prize?

The Pink Bison Prize is an art prize open to anyone in any medium around the world. In the spirit of democratizing art, finalists are selected through voting via online platform critics, and collectors on Altamira. The winner by a jury of experts. Read more here.

Where is Altamira located?

We are headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

How do upvotes work?

When you like a work of art, or think it is good, upvote it by clicking on the up arrow. Upvotes move works up the feed. Artists' and critics' upvotes are weighted more heavily than fans'.

What is the difference between an artist, a critic and a fan?

Artists are able to post their work for evaluation and sale. We verify each artist is established and producing original work before they can post on Altamira. Critics are active and experienced writers and evaluators of art. Both artists' and critics' votes carry a bit more weight. Fans are everyone else.

How do I give feedback about the platform?

Your feedback is wildly helpful to our continued improvement of the product. If you have an idea, thought, or spot a bug please let us know. Feedback can be given here, or by clicking on the feedback button on the bottom of any page. The more descriptive your feedback is the more helpful it will be for us to act on.

Can I sell art on Altamira if I am not an artist?

Only artists can sell their own original works on Altamira with one notable exception; if you purchased a piece from an artist on Altamira, you can resell the piece through Altamira. The original artist receives a small commission from the sale and you are charged the same small 10% fee as the original artist who sold it to you. Everybody wins.

How do I delete my account?

We are working on functionality to allow you to do this on your own, until it is complete, email support(at)altamira.art or submit a ticket through the feedback button on the bottom of any page we'll delete it for you.

How are artists selected?

We review the portfolio submitted and verify that you are a working artist, and creating original work. It is up to the community whose pieces are the most upvoted on a given day, week or month.

Are there any tips or best practices for selling my work or building a following on Altamira?

The number 1 tip we give is to participate. Post, Comment, Critique, Write, Follow, Upvote. The more you participate the more opportunity there is to be discovered by collectors on Altamira. For more, read our article, How to Sell Your Art n Altamira.

When will my account be verified?

Sometimes this can be done as quickly as a couple of hours but in others can take up to a week.

Why do you ask for my bank information?

So we can quickly pay you when your work sells. We do not store any of your bank information on our own servers or even have access to view it ourselves. Stripe, our third-party payment processor securely holds all of this information. Stripe is the leading online payment processor with state-of-the-art security and fraud prevention. What is the upload procedure like?

Very simple. If you’ve posted something on social media, you can post on Altamira.

Can I price my own piece?

Yup! How you price your piece is totally up to you!

Can galleries, dealers, or collectors post work?

Altamira was created to empower artists, so only artists can post their work. Once a piece posted by an artist is purchased the acquirer can reactivate the post and resell the piece. When this happens and the piece is sold the original artist will receive a royalty.

What happens if I have the most upvoted piece in a week?

You will be featured at the top of the homepage for the following week and will be featured in the weekly review email.

I see I can only post 3 a day. I have thousands of pieces. Is there any way I can post more per day, in the beginning, to get started?

Nope. The platform is designed to drive recurring engagement by presenting work in a feed with a variety of work from different artists. In this way, art fans, buyers, etc are checking back on a regular basis to see what new work has been posted.

What percentage of the sale do I get when a piece sells?

Artists keep 90% on every sale.

How quickly will I be paid when a piece sells?

Payment times can differ, but generally really fast. We use a payment platform called Stripe, once a piece is purchased, payment is collected through Stripe and your 90% cut is deposited directly into your bank account.

How does the referral program work?

Artists are encouraged to refer other artists to join Altamira. When they do so using the referral link provided in the account settings they will receive 1% of any sale the referred artist makes. This comes out of the portion we collect to operate Altamira. It is our way of saying thank you for helping grow Altamira.

How does the resale commission program work?

Once someone purchases a piece of your work, they can resell the piece through Altamira. This is the only time a non-artist can sell work on Altamira. When they do you will receive a 1% resale commission on the piece. This applies to all future sales of the piece on Altamira.

When connecting my checking account for payouts, what should I put for website?

Put the url to your profile on Altamira ie: altamira.art/your_name

How does shipping work?

There are two options you can select for shipping when you post a piece. The first is white glove, where our shipping partner will coordinate the pick up of your piece from wherever you are, pack the piece, and take care of everything from there. This is best for pieces above $5k. The second is self-ship, where we send you a printable shipping label and you are responsible for packing and shipping the piece. This is best for pieces below $5k.

How do I delete a post?

How long will it take for a piece to arrive after purchase?

Pieces will typically arrive within 2 weeks of purchase. The shipping status can be checked in your account after purchase.

How does shipping work?

ARTA is the trusted shipping partner of Altamira. Shipping rates are based on the address you provide and includes collection, packaging and delivery. ARTA provide the most accurate price and appropriate shipping method for every item to arrive safely. For large items, you will be contacted to schedule a delivery appointment.

Do you offer returns

At this time no returns are accepted. You can however resell the piece you purchased by updating the piece to “for sale” in your account.
