My first painting of ‘22 has a lot going on for such a simple setting. Two people are walking off the canvas in different directions while the man in the bowler hat stands, briefcase in hand, staring at a large boulder that occupies the insides of a lobby elevator. “Going Down” continues my ongoing tribute to Magritte while making an interesting statement about corporate America. The pandemic and just the ongoing evolution of how business gets done has changed the corporate landscape. The need for high-rise, corporate headquarters is no longer a necessity. Power suits have been replaced by more casual wear. I tried some new techniques for this painting, spongeing both the walls and the tile floor. i have no idea what people will think of this painting. But I enjoyed creating it and at its 36” x 48” format, it certainly grabs your attention!
