Aside Myself
This piece is very special to me. I had been struggling to create for about 10 days after creating what I like to refer to as my new approach or style. As a result, I felt defeated and was obsessing on the why. Why I couldn’t create so easily like that day where it just flowed effortlessly. After feeling defeated I went to The Broad in DTLA for some inspiration and got some Ramen with my lady. I finally felt some inspiration around 11pm later that night... I got out of bed and went to the studio. These shapes and color blocks represent so much more than what you see. The blocks represent the labels I place on myself through my inner critic and the restrictions that come with that. The shapes represent me pushing through that fear and self-criticism to a new me. A fearless me. A me that can flow free on canvas. Here’s to living in faith.
